The bunny hat stereotype, also known as bunny hat kids, is a stereotype that is commonly associated with users who wear bunny hats in their videos.

History[]

Following the 'Alt TikTok' trend in mid-2020, bunny hats started to become increasingly popular.

The stereotype started to gain increasing popularity during August, 2021, when a trend with the song 'Cancer' by MCR started trending, with users stating how they listened to the song and were emo, and 'bunny hat kids' had called them posers.^[1]^[2]^[3]^[4] The trend also gained criticism, with some people stating that people should be allowed to wear whatever they want, along with other people stating that the trend was transphobic because of the mocking of neopronouns in the videos.^[5]

N3koBit3, also known as Bunni, was a popular user who commonly wore a bunny hat. In March 2021, it was allegedly said that they had been pretending to have been poor, along with having asianfished and having done other problematic actions.^[6]^[7]^[8]^[9]

Bait/Fake Accounts[]

Around late 2021, accounts started to pop up that would download videos that included people in bunny hats, and would then put offensive text over it along with other stereotypical traits from the stereotype, such as one video saying 'Tw: Bunny hat, Vent, Cat, mittens, Dirty Room'.^[10] These accounts were commonly known as 'Bait' Accounts.^[11]

@ellecctra is a user who is largely believed to be satire. The user commonly wears a bunny hat, along with including Monster energy drink in a lot of videos and stating support for the Minecraft YouTuber Dream.^[12]^[13]
