The Dabloon Cat
Dabloons are a fictional currency[1] on TikTok. The currency is a purposeful misspelling of the Spanish doubloon.[2]
History[]
In 2021 an Instagram meme was posted, showing a picture of the "dabloon cat" and a caption of, "4 Dabloons".[3] The meme on Instagram would be transferred over to TikTok later in 2022, and from there it would spiral into a TikTok sensation. The dabloon cat was a black cat holding up four phalanges, which would hint at the meme.
Many people still refer to the meme as "doubloons" but the name "dabloon" is the correct way of spelling as far as the meme goes. Doubloons were a gold coin minted in colonial Spain which were worth about $4 in today's money, but the real doubloon currency has been disbanded.
Early Days on TikTok[]
The first sighting of the dabloon on TikTok is unknown, but most dabloon videos would spur into population at around 2022-11-22 (Y/M/D).[4] The dabloon cat would often be in a slideshow on TikTok, sometimes starting with the phrase: "Hey, fellow traveler!" or something close to it. In the background of the video would be a sped-up song from My Singing Monsters,[3] a mobile game featuring, well, singing monsters. The slideshow would then show you a fictional product that you would want, but at the end of the slideshow it would reveal that "It will cost you 4 Dabloons."
The meme would eventually evolve into a whole fictional economy, even looming with inflation. The incoming inflation would turn the economy upside down, and coming to the top was the dabloon government.
Dabloon Government[]
The Dabloon Government consisted mostly of the president and dabloon police. However, there were more governmental figures, including officials, some dabloon spies, and the dabloon military.
The dabloon president was never confirmed.[4] There were many "presidential votings", and none of them were considered to be the official ones. Many would say the user @dabloon_president is the official president of the fictional dabloon world, but he has competition with @president dabloon and @Dabloon president.[4] Either way, laws somehow started to circulate around TikTok regarding the rise of inflation.
Dabloon Laws[]
Dabloon laws are based on an honor system;[1] there is really no one there to actually enforce it. There may be dabloon police, but they are only fictional, and cannot arrest you in real life.
The biggest and most important law in the dabloon world is the dabloon giving/taking cap law.[2] This law was created in order to stop the mass production of dabloons, and to therefore stop the dabloon inflation from getting worse. The law consists of a rule for the amount of money you can give out or take for free. The cap is set on 100 dabloons, and has not changed since its creation. Before the law, people would give out infinite dabloons and people would just take it without hesitation.
How to Get Dabloons[]
When scrolling on TikTok you may come across a video in which you have to spend dabloons to get a fictional product. If you ever want the product, you would have to earn some dabloons. Lucky for you, there are many ways.
The first and most popular way to get dabloons is to just scroll on TikTok.[5] While scrolling on TikTok you may find slideshows with the same dabloon cat we all know and love, which (instead of taking dabloons from you) would kindly give you an x amount of dabloons for free. No add-ons or consequences. This, however, can become an unreliable source of dabloon income, as it is only by chance. The dabloon cap law also limits the amount of dabloons you can take or give.
A second option is to get a dabloon job. There are many dabloon jobs out there, and with just one search in the TikTok search bar you can be earning many dabloons per day. Some job examples would be a doctor, an interior designer, a policeman, etc., etc. The number of jobs out there is infinite, and you don't even need a qualification to get the job of your dreams, just simply find a TikTok with your dream job, and (mentally) sign up. These jobs are not real, however, and you cannot earn real money.
Another option would be to open a dabloon store.[1] On TikTok you could create a separate account just to sell a product to other dabloonians (TikTok citizens with dabloons). To sell products you would just post a video of what you are selling, and how much everything costs. Every once in a while people would buy your product, giving you some dabloons.
The fourth option is very illegal (albeit only fictionally); however, it is sadly an option for those who wish to earn money fast. This option is robbing other dabloonians. By simply posting a video you can be earning thousands of dabloons per day (depending on the amount of views).
Dabloon Robbings[]
When scrolling on TikTok you could bump into a dabloon robbing. This would force you to hand over all of your dabloons and give it to the robber. However, if you have a means of protection, you could scare off the robber; therefore, not giving any of your dabloons away. Some examples of this "protection" would be a guard dog, some sort of fictional weapon in your possession, having money deposited in a bank, and many more options. If you can defeat a robber with it in real life, it would most likely work in the dabloon world.
Collapse of the Dabloon Trend[]
The dabloon meme did not last very long. In fact, it only lasted about a month; from November 2022 to the start of December 2022.[4] The meme didn't even make it to the New Year. This could have been for a lot of reasons; it was too chaotic, it may have become boring for some, or it may just be because of the TikTok algorithm. Either way, the trend will not be forgotten. It has sparked so many creative ideas in the community, and it has left a mark on the TikTok platform as a whole.
A Close Resurrection[]
During April 2023, fans of the Dabloon trend were becoming upset of the trend's collapse. Many individuals during that time would post videos that stated the "Dabloon trend should come back" or that it should be "revived". It initially started out good, with videos getting thousands of views, but in under a week, the videos would soon be plummeting in popularity. The attempted revival of the trend is over, and although many people will still talk about it, it has actually begun again, so reinstall dabloon bank guys!
