The meme dates as early back as April 3, 2020, when a YouTube channel by the name of 'missbicthXCX' posted the meme.[1] On May 16, 2021, the account @popitmeg would post the meme on Twitter, referring to it as a '[Stan Twitter] meme'.[2]
On TikTok, the meme gained popularity during March–May 2022. On March 15, 2022, the meme was posted by the user @1likeag6, with the video gaining over 400K.[3] A video posted by @bryantisfruity, referencing the meme, gained over 60K likes.[4] In early May 2022, the user @rida.el would post the meme 'for those who didn't see it', gaining over 400K likes on the video.[5]
Although the meme is generally used together with the instrumental intro to the song 'Tag, You're It' (by Melanie Martinez) on TikTok, the earliest dated back video of the meme has the background music as different song.
